THE PALM BEACH POST SATURDAY, JANUARY 8, 2000 MSL Officer shoots, hurts driver as car speeds toward him By A. Scharnhorst Palm Beach Post Staff Writer WEST PALM BEACH- A police officer who was afraid of being run over opened fire on a car Thursday night, seriously wounding the driver, police said. Officer Ian MacVane was on foot in an alley between the 400 blocks of 21st and 22nd streets when the driver of the car accelerated toward him, police spokeswoman Dena Peterson said. MacVane was afraid the driver was going to run him over, so he pulled his service weapon and fired as the car sped toward him. The car continued past MacVane, who did not know whether he had shot the driver.

Police later found the car, empty and still running, in the 1100 block of 23rd St. The driver, Telly Andrews, 16, of Riviera Beach, was found inside al house a block away, Peterson said. The incident began about 6 p.m. near 23rd Street and Tamarind Avenue, when MacVane and officer Russell Lichter spotted a white Chevrolet with a taillight out. The officers tried to stop the car, but the driver refused.

When the driver, later identified as Andrews, pulled into the alley, MacVane got out of the police cruiser while Lichter circled around. to the other side. MacVane said he saw Andrews get out of the Chevrolet and crouch next to it. MacVane ordered him to walk away from the car, but Andrews got back in and drove toward him. Andrews underwent surgery Thursday night at St.

Mary's Medical Center. The hospital was not releasing information Friday about his condition. was charged with aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer with a motor vehicle. He had outstanding warrants for failure to appear and violation of probation for the sale of cocaine. FREDERICK G.

LILLIAN M. BURKARD Mrs. Burkard, of North Palm Beach, Florida passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2000 after a brief illness. She was born in Illinois and traveled throughout the world several times before settling in North Palm Beach 20 years ago. Professionally, Mrs.

Burkard was employed as a Court Reporter in the Legal System in both America and England. An avid Bridge Player, she was a member of various Bridge Clubs. She was a dynamic woman who spent many years in service to the Board of Directors of her condo association. Mrs. Burkard attended Saint Mark's Episcopal Church, Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

She was a member of The Order of The Eastern Star, Daughters of The Nile. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank Burkard and a daughter, Laraine Vestreheim. Mrs. Burkard is survived by three devoted children: Margie Morley of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Constance Queen of Louisa, Kentucky and George I. Laman of Tangerine, FL; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

LUCIA ANN LEMONGELLO age 74 of Palm Beach, Florida passed away suddenly Thursday afternoon, January 6, 2000. Mrs. Lemongello was born November 26, 1925 in Belleville, New Jersey, daughter of the late Perry Conforti and Marie Antoinette Esposito. She had been a resident of the Palm Beaches since 1977, coming from Morristown, New Jersey. She was a graduate of Montclair State Teacher's College, Montclair, NJ, receiving her MA Degree in Education in 1952.

Mrs. Lemongello was a teacher at the Jefferson Davis Middie School in West Palm Beach, retiring in 1993. She was treasurer of the Women of St. Clare's, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Santa Maria Council Knights of Columbus and was a daily communicant of St. Clare's Catholic Church.

JOHN R. VANDERBY John R. Vanderby, age 73, of Boynton Beach, Florida, passed away Tuesday, January 04, 2000. John was a veteran of WWII. He was from Holland, Michigan and former owner of the Vanderby Company in Holland from 1955 to 1977.

John and his wife Harriet formed and operated Bee Custom Kitchens and Baths, Inc. in Boynton Beach from 1983 to 1997.
